Awesome people like me can even procrastinate in celebrating Valentine's Day! I kid I kid. Didn't deliberately delayed the Valentine's Day celebration but I was in Bangkok with my family on February 14 so we just postponed the celebration.
I will not say stuff like...
"Everyday is a Valentine's Day"or
"Nah we don't celebrate Valentine's Day cause we don't believe in all that"
Because HELLO! It's Valentine's Day! It's like you're given a reason to go out for a nice dinner, receive presents and get showered with love. Sure I get showered with love all the time, but I like it when I have some specific reason/label to make that day obligatory special hehe.
So I came back from Bangkok and got terribly sick. BAD cough, running nose and sore throat. Out of sympathy (I think), my bf decided to bring me out for dinner! Since there's no agenda to the dinner, I just label it as...
Our Valentine's Day Dinner!
See what I meant by it's so nice to use "Valentine's Day" for an excuse for a good date?
It was rather impromptu when we decided to try the Japanese restaurant Kura in One World Hotel. We've walked passed it several times and vow to try it some day but never did. It's hidden in the first floor, a floor above the lobby. "Hidden" because honestly, with the lack of signage and it's not very visible from the outside, the place is hardly noticeable.
But I'm sure you can just ask the staff at the hotel lobby and they'll guide you there
I was quite skeptical at first because I thought the price will be unreasonably high because of the location and ambiance. But I am pretty pleased when I saw the menu and it's rather ok! Like at a premium but not too exaggerated.
Sneaked a picture of the set menu
They have quite a variety of choices ranging from sashimi to sukiyaki. Since it is under the same management as Sushi Zanmai, they also serve the famous rolls like Dragon Rolls and Cranky Salmon Roll. Despite the same management, they do serve higher end stuff like sea urchin.
We were politely greeted and directed to our seats and I love the seating arrangements of the place because it's very distinctive? Like they have a lot of small rooms or more like compartment-ed space so if you only want a personal space then this is the place to go!
Of course, they do have an open seating area as well so that they can maximize the space
Atas looking walkway
We choose a place where there's only seats for two and facing a glass panel. Unfortunately, there's not much of a view.. Just IBM/KPMG tower and the LDP highway! Haha, But I'm pretty sure that if we can overlook the KL skyline then the food will be priced differently for sure!
Our seats
My view for the night haha LDP highway is on my left
Everytime I get a warm hand towel, I want one of the machine for warm towels FOREVERRRR
Time for the essence of the post...
THE FOODGot ourselves a little appetizer!
This cost RM 10
He randomly felt like tamago so ok! lol. I always loved Japanese tamago so yay to tamago(s)!
For the main course, since I am still on my salmon sahimi craze which I got it since last year October I think, of course I ordered as much salmon as I can!
Ordered my set with Salmon as the main
This set is around RM 37 and it's pretty satisfying!
The salmon
The salmon is so amazingly fresh! Behind the salom is actually wet seaweed which I never seen them served with salmon sashimi before and the good news is that I found another type of vege which I like! However, the wasabi tasted a bit weird to me.. There's like a weird fragrance which I find it gross so I ended up dipping my salmon in soy sauce only. Not sure is it their wasabi or that I've accidentally mixed some sukiyaki soup into the wasabi. Guess I'll only find out in my next visit.
We also ordered the sukiyaki since I'm not feeling too well, my bf ordered me something warm to battle the cold.
The set cost around RM 35
Actually preferred the sukiyki over the salmon because of the wasabi lol.
Anyway, the sukiyaki was pretty well made. I am not a big fan of sukiyaki because of the salty taste of the soup sometimes. But Kura's sukiyaki is not too sweet or salty so I enjoyed it so much. Mixed the soup with rice and oh gosh so yummy!
Overall, I had a rather good experience with Kura. The food is good and the ambiance feels classy and comfortable, I think I will visit here again soon! Even when it's not Valentine's Day! :D
Happy Valentine's Day from the both of us!
