Frozen: Elsa was Originally A Villain?!

Hey pillow talkers!

Today's blog post is about a movie that I'm absolutely obsessed with: Frozen! I know it seems odd that I am talking about a movie that was released so long ago. Even a person who has not watched the movie would know about the elegant Elsa, silly Anna and the ear worm songs!

A simple Google search on Frozen would give you loads of reviews that praise the movie. But what most people don't know is that Disney originally planned for Elsa to be A VILLAIN.

I found this out through an article titled 'How Disney Nearly Ruined Frozen' by Gina Luttrell. She in turn, found out through Internet Movie Database (IMDB) Trivia.

I'm a huge fan of Frozen. I've watched the movie twice, watched countless YouTube clips and repeated the tracks enough times for me to start thinking about stuff like "hey, what does this lyric mean?" or "why is Elsa so creepy transformed?". If Elsa was supposed to be the villain, it answers all the questions I had about Frozen.

Just in case anyone hasn't watch this awesome movie..

Anyways, between Elsa and Anna, I much prefer Elsa. Yes, Anna is fun, silly, lively and lights up the whole movie, but to me she's totally a brat! Because of her, Elsa lived in fear and guilt. Also, because of her, Elsa's secret was revealed. I mean, who marries someone they just met?!

But then again, if Anna didn't screw up a million times, there would be no movie right?

Elsa, on the other hand, is so loving. The many sacrifices she made for her sister definitely required a crazy amount of love that I cannot imagine! But Anna doesn't realise this and would tick Elsa off. Like in the song "For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)", Elsa warned her, "Anna, please you'll only make it worse.". But Anna being Anna, didn't listen and continued to push Elsa further, resulting in Anna getting hit by Elsa's berserk powers the second time.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Anna. I just prefer Elsa! Just look at her transformation to the ice dress in the "Let it Go" clip; instant love! So apparently my favourite character was meant to be a villian. This explains A LOT! For instance I've always wondered why in the song "Let It Go", there is a verse saying "let the storm rage on"?. Because bear in mind that when Elsa sang that song, she didn't know that Arandell is in deep, deep, deep, deep snow. She only found out when Anna told her later during the song "For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)". So how or why does she want the Arandell storm to rage on when she does not know she created a storm to begin with? I'm guessing that in the original Frozen storyline, Elsa intentionally set off the storm before building her evil castle lair on top of the mountain. The typical Disney movie; with the typical storyline that we have been watching.

Besides that, doesn't anyone notice how creepy Elsa's make up is when she transformed her outfit? The purple eye shadow makes her look like some proud owner of a villain lair. But if she's meant to be the villain, her make up totally makes sense now!

Doesn't look as creepy as a picture but head on over to Youtube to see the full scene.
And as at the time of writing, there are approximately 72 million views!

ALL HAIL DISNEY FOR REALIZING ELSA'S POTENTIAL TO BE GOOD!

So apparently, "Let It Go" was such a positive and self discovery song, that the producers switched Elsa's role; from ice queen villain to co-heroine.

So if Elsa was switched from ice queen villain to co-heroine, then I wonder whether Hans was in the original script, or was he a last minute addition villain? I've read reviews saying the love of Anna and Hans was so convincing that they didn't see Hans' betrayal coming. Please la, it's still a kids' show. If Hans is good then what is Kristoff supposed to do? Royal ice supplier? Plus, Kristoff came on screen before Elsa and Anna, so he was definitely going to play the true love character. I gave myself a mini applause for figuring that out the moment I saw Hans.

I was wowed during the final scene for the movie. For the first time in forever, Disney didn't climax the movie with a true love's kiss.

Well, I'm glad that the producers changed Elsa's role. By doing this, they have turned the typical Disney movie into one that every girl can relate to. Good job guys!

P.S. Come to think of it, if Elsa was evil, I totally won't mind getting attacked by an army of Olaf! He is my second favourite character after Elsa. Olaf is so silly and funny! A snowman who wants to enjoy summer without knowing he'll melt! "winter is the perfect time to cuddle, put me in summer and I'll be a... HAPPY SNOW MAN!"

Bye now~

P.P.S. Been entering myself for movie premiere passes but didn't manage to win four times in a row. Is it plain bad luck or that my slogans weren't creative enough or selection bias? Either way, I've been pretty demotivated lately because of that. And when I was just about to give up, I managed to score tickets for the Book Thief! Motivation MAXED! So tune in next week for a double post; one movie review and my normal post next Wednesday!
