Back to my humble little space on a Monday morning. I see why weekends are meant to be just 2 days long. 3 days are just too long and it's so hard to kick start the engine again after having the luxury of sleeping in for 3 days! Although... it's so much nicer to get longer rest instead of feeling like the weekend is NEVER enough!
Anyway, back to my blog topic today. Over the long Raya weekend I finally found some time to catch a movie! Been itching to watch a good movie in the cinema but hasn't really gotten myself to it. Resorted to watch old movies like Cinderella, Cloudy with The Chance of Meatball 2, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 at home! Yes yes my movie choices are mostly kid show. Lol don't judge.
To max out my holiday I thought okay! I MUST WATCH A MOVIE! Not staying at home to be a couch potato but get my ass out the house and buy some super expensive tickets plus popcorn that I can never finish! Since Ant-Man is like the 'in' movie now so I just thought okay.... why not.
Because the name of the show is literally ORANG SEMUT!
That's Ant-Man in Malay but haha the movie title somehow just makes you irk a little. Orang SEMUT!!! Hehe. It just sounds less cooler than ya know... Captain America! Iron Man! ANT! The insect doesn't even have a cool reputation like Black Widow. At least it sounds scarier and cooler. ANT! *squish* *dies*
Another reason other than my judge-the-movie-by-its-movie-title is that movies lately have been more disappointing than satisfying. Movies like Avengers 2 or Minions sounds like woah the must watch movie of the year but it turns out to be a so-so movie. Especially Minions.. they're so adorable when they're just throwing one liner in Despicable Me but when the entire movie is gibberish, it's super annoying. And Ant-Man is exactly those movies that got rated so highly as if missing it will cost you your life. So I'm skeptical will the movie be as good as it is promoted or it's just another let down.
Surprise! Surprise!
The movie is actually AS GOOD AS IT WAS PROMOTED! I regretted not going for premiere for this movie thinking it's gonna be a sien sien movie.
BUT THE MOVIE WAS GOOD! IN FACT, IT'S GREAT!
For starters, the movie was hilarious. Instead of a super intense 2 hours long movie, it has that funny element throughout the entire movie. Like in normal Marvel movie, you'll see Nick Fury or some big shot telling whoever that they have absolute faith in them. In Ant-Man, Micheal Douglas who played Dr. Pym was clearly displaying his concerns over the acquaintances picked by Ant-Man

His responses are so epic funny. And please pay close attention to the three acquaintances of Ant-Man! THEY'RE SUPER EPIC OMGGG!
The CG effect of the movie literally brought the ants to live. Erm.. I really think anyone who hates insects especially ants should refrain from watching this movie. Then again, seeing ants short circuiting the entire server was...pretty Damn cool! Lol
To me, the movie also carried a very important message about second chances. Scott Lang aka Ant-Man minus suit is actually an ex-convict who was just released from prison. He went to jail for being Robin Hood and for his daughter, he desperately needed a second chance to redeem himself. He tried looking for jobs but to no avail.. he even tried to cover up his past but...
Baskin Robin ALWAYS finds out! (Watch the movie and you'll know why)
So I can't help but think why people who did a mistake once cannot be forgiven. Or given another opportunity. People change. Just cause some people don't doesn't mean everyone else doesn't. I guess that's just some food for thought.
Of course, the movie is action packed but not too exaggerated with explosion everywhere. In fact, because of the size of ants, whatever fighting scenes also seem to be very small scaled. Lol. Regardless, the actions are good. Not overdone and just right on the dot.
Besides, Ant-Man minus suit is pretty darn cute too. WHO DOESN'T LIKE A MOVIE WITH CUTE GUY?!

I'll even give it a 9/10! Definitely a must watch movie of the year!
