Benefits of Being a Middle Child

Gonna put it up front..
Being a middle child SUCKS!!
It might not be very obvious to others but being the middle child myself I know verify that Middle Child Syndrome is super real. I have an older sister and a younger sister so I've pretty much stuck in the middle since I was 5. It sucks because your older siblings are ALWAYS right and your younger siblings are always too young to be right. Hence, 80% of the time, the middle child is always wrong.

Weird things siblings do!

So many incidences where I feel not as "special" or "gifted" as my siblings.. heck I should be thankful that people even remembers me wtf! But I realized how being a middle child has it perks.. Since this is not a rant post, I'm just gonna keep it short and sweet and go straight to my new, sudden, and sounds-a-lot-like-self-pity kinda benefits.
1. The lime lights are hardly on you
You know how parents/relatives/people generally pays more attention on the older and younger siblings? I just realized how that has given me so much more freedom than I thought I'd have! Because when older/younger siblings do things, people will microscopic in it but to the middle child it was a..
"Ok.. You do what you want"
Really.. for some odd reasons, my curfew or trips with friends are easier than any of my siblings. My parents controls me but not as strict with my sisters. So I got to go out the latest and go out on a few vacation on my own without a lot of commotion. I guess it's great because I would appreciate more of those experience I gain when I'm alone.

Actually I think the fact that I'm a complete nerd might play into the factor but being the middle child, definitely helps. After all, when the older siblings said they wanna do something, parents will have difficulties letting go but since my older sibling did it before, I had less problems getting the permission. While the younger siblings will forever be an infant trapped in an adult's body so, sucks to be them too lol
2. Attention seeking
No idea how the other middle kids do it but I still remember the turning point of becoming a nerd...

Honestly, I was pretty stupid. I never put in any effort in my studies because I was given the idea that I will never be as smart as my older or younger sister. My mother always praised about my younger sister's results in KINDERGARTEN omg my mom is super Asian and my parents are very proud of my older sister's UPSR results.

Me?

NO EXPECTATIONS WHATSOEVER

So when my UPSR results turned out to be better than my older's sisters, my parents were thrilled! Never made my parents THAT proud before lol. I always felt like the low-key one (see told you I have Middle Child Syndrome). Since then I've tried hard to get good results and taadaa my attention seeking desires turned out to be quite positive. I guess without the attention which I wanted, I wouldn't be bothered about results yada yada!
3. The best of both worlds
My big sister wants a bigger sister while my little sister wants a little-er sister!

They both wonders how it feels like to have an older/younger than self sister while I get to experience both. I wouldn't say it sucks but it's sometimes hard because I'm always the turkey in the turkey sandwich. There's not much personality left after having to deal with both sides lol. But having two sisters who're same same but VERY DIFFERENT, it's quite a blessing. Not easy to get best of both worlds huh?
4. Less overreaction
This is rather similar to point 1 but honestly speaking, whenever I do something, it's less scrutinized by my parents. For example, when my sister scratched the car, she got nagged. But when I did it it was a.. oh-kay. Or when I bring my bf home, it was still a oh-kayyy but whenever either one of my siblings do it, WW3 yo! I guess it's better in the sense that I can be more open to my parents and feel much less stressed out doing what I love doing, the chance I got to explore around is something I really glad I have.

Okay so I did say that this will be a really short post because I'm typing this out upon having an Eureka moment! I guess whichever sibling you are, it all boils down to how you communicate with your parents and how you bring yourself about. How would you expect to be treated as an adult if you don't act like one right?

I guess that's all I have for this week and until inspiration strikes again, have a great great day!

Bye~
